Open-Concept Kitchen & Living Remodel in Bothell, WA

Location: Bothell, WA
Project Type: Kitchen & Living Area Remodel
Size: 900 sq ft
Style: Modern / Contemporary

This 900 sq ft Bothell remodel transformed a separated kitchen and dining area into a brighter, more open living space designed for everyday use and entertaining.

By improving the connection between the kitchen and surrounding living areas, recentering the island, introducing wide-plank flooring, and coordinating new cabinetry, lighting, and finishes, the renovation created a more functional and welcoming heart of the home.

Opening the Kitchen to the Living Space
One of the most important changes was creating a stronger connection between the kitchen and dining area.

Rather than keeping the rooms visually separated, the remodel unified the main living space and repositioned the kitchen island to improve circulation, seating, and interaction between the different areas.

The new layout makes the kitchen feel larger and creates a more natural environment for cooking, gathering, and entertaining.

A Modern Kitchen with Warm, Natural Details

Light beige cabinetry with a subtle wood-grain texture brings warmth to the kitchen while maintaining a clean, modern appearance.

Matte black hardware creates contrast, while marble-look surfaces and a waterfall-edge island introduce a refined architectural detail without making the space feel overly formal.

The combination of warm cabinetry, dark accents, and light countertops creates a balanced palette that feels modern but comfortable.

The redesigned island became the focal point of the kitchen.
Its new position improves circulation through the room while providing additional preparation space, storage, and seating. The waterfall countertop gives the island a clean, continuous appearance and helps visually define the kitchen within the larger open living area.

Pendant lighting above the island adds another layer of warmth and creates a natural gathering point for everyday meals and entertaining.

Connecting the Space Through Finishes

Wide-plank wood flooring runs through the remodeled living area, creating a consistent visual foundation and helping connect the kitchen with the surrounding rooms.

Modern pendant lighting, matte black hardware, dark door trim, and carefully coordinated finish details add contrast while keeping the overall interior clean and cohesive.

Rather than treating each element independently, the flooring, lighting, cabinetry, countertops, and trim were selected to work together as one complete design.
